Understanding an Award Letter

For more information please contact your ADVISER

Award letters can vary between colleges, but they will almost always include the following below. You can find this on your school's portal account or it may have been mailed as well.

Below is an example of an award letter & the types of aid awarded.

REMEMBER, GRANTS & SCHOLARSHIPS DO NOT HAVE TO BE PAID BACK

st.marys award letter.jpg

SINCE FINANCIAL AID IS AWARDED BY SEMESTER, THIS IS A BREAKDOWN OF COST PER SEMESTER.

LOANS DO HAVE TO BE PAYED BACK.

LOANS ARE OPTIONAL. ONLY ACCEPT IF YOU NEED THEM.

WITH ONLY GRANTS & SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED YOU WOULD HAVE A BALANCE OF $10,386 PER SEMESTER TO BE PAID FOR TUITION & ROOM/BOARD.

TUITION & ROOM/BOARD: $23,000 -

TOTAL GRANTS/SCHOLARSHIPS: $12,614

= $10,386

WITH ALL AID AWARDED YOU WOULD HAVE $522 LEFT OVER PER SEMESTER AFTER TUITION & ROOM/BOARD HAVE BEEN PAID.

TUITION & ROOM/BOARD: $23,000 -

TOTAL GRANTS/SCHOLARSHIPS: $12,614 -

TOTAL LOANS: $9.864

= -$522

Make sure you accept any aid like scholarships & grants from all schools you have been accepted to ASAP. Most schools have deadlines for when aid has to be accepted. Leave loans to be accepted at a later time.
